Rolling Stones: the new album is “Foreign tongues”?
It was supposed to be a surprise for the band’s fans. Instead, the British tabloids “burned” the announcement by Mick Jagger and co. The Rolling Stones’ new album should be called “Foreign tongues” and come out already by the end of the month: it would already be anticipated this Saturday, April 11thThe first single “Mr. Charm”. The conditional is a must, because although the news was anticipated by Daily Mailbefore being immediately picked up by other tabloids in the United Kingdom, at the moment there is still no official announcement from the Rolling Stones. The album, as reported by the Daily Mail, it will be the last of the legendary rock band’s more than sixty-year career of “(I can’t get no) Satisfaction” and will also include some of Charlie Watts’ latest recordingsthe group’s historic drummer, who passed away in 2021 at the age of 80.
The Sun added other details to those revealed by the Daily Mail, reporting the declarations of a deep throat close to the band: «The album has been ready for some time. Much of the material was written and recorded a while ago, but there was a lot of tweaking to make it perfect. The guys are aware that they are no longer very young, so some consider it their last albumbut with the Stones who knows? They will make some appearances together to promote it, but for now there will not be a tour.”
The band were supposed to perform in European stadiums – including Italy: they had booked a date at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome – this summer, before the arthritis suffered by Keith Richards pushed the Stones to cancel everything even before the tour was announced. The album will be produced like the previous “Hackney diamonds” by Andrew Watts. After the 2023 album release the Rolling Stones said they had recorded 23 songs and kept 11 “in reserve” for their next album.
The official announcement from the Rolling Stones on the new album should arrive soon. In recent days Mick Jagger and his associates have enjoyed arousing the curiosity of fans through mysterious posters that appeared in London, which simply bore the words “The Cockroaches” and a QR Code. By scanning the latter, you were redirected to a site, thecockroaches.com. On the page, there was a photo of a 1970s room: a rotary telephone, some vinyl records (including that of “Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars” by David Bowie), concert tickets, a poster and a clock that set the date for next April 11th. If you clicked on “Sign up”, the page displayed the words “who the hell are the Cockroaches?” and invited fans to sign up for updates. It didn’t take the most avid fans long to realize that the Rolling Stones were hiding behind the name The Cockroaches (Cockroaches is a pseudonym that Jagger and his associates adopted in the past).
Also in recent days, as reported by Rockol, in London Kharmel Cochrane’s agency had opened casting calls for the filming of the official video clip of the album’s lead single. Filming took place in London on 30 and 31 March. On the poster, which featured the unmistakable Rolling Stones’ tongue, there were also rumors about the mood of the song: «Imagine: old-fashioned blues souls, punk kids, old school rockers, Northern Soul dancers, streetwear, glam rock looks, real bands, DIY chaos».
