Years pass, but the fans’ love for Jeff Buckley does not pass. It immediately flew to first place at the Cinetel box office”It’s never over: Jeff Buckley“, the docufilm that traces the human and artistic parable of the American singer-songwriter, who passed away prematurely – in circumstances that have never been fully clarified – in 1997, at just 30 years of age. Released yesterday in Italian saltwhere it will remain until Tomorrowthe film grossed on its first day of screening in our country 58,279 eurosequal to 5,239 attendances.

Directed by the Oscar-nominated director Amy Berg (“Deliver Us from Evil”, “Janis: Little Girl Blue”, “West of Memphis”) and co-produced by Brad Pitt, the documentary reconstructs the life and artistic itinerary of Jeff Buckley in the cultural context of New York in the 1980s and 1990s. Told through unpublished archive materials from Buckley’s personal estate and intimate testimonies of the mother Mary Guibertof former companions Rebecca Moore And Joan Wasserhis former bandmates — including Michael Tighe And Parker Kindred — and artists like Ben Harper And Aimee Mann, It’s Never Over: Jeff Buckley illuminates one of the most iconic and enigmatic figures in contemporary music. To accompany the release of the film also a playlist dedicated to Jeff Buckley, which you can listen to below by clicking on “play”.

Just one album, the first (“Grace”, 1994), was enough for Jeff Buckley, son of the great Tim Buckley, to enter the history of music, before his tragic death in the waters of a tributary of the Mississippi: «I don’t remember a period in my life in which I didn’t think about making a film about Jeff Buckley – declares director Amy Berg – I’ve been thinking about it at least since I started making films in 2006. Or perhaps since ’94, when I listened to Grace for the first time… Mary, Jeff’s mother, is the first person I met to sketch this out. At the time, 18 years ago, you were thinking about a biopic. But his archival materials were unforgettable: I think for example of the last heartbreaking voice message left on the answering machine. I was certain that a documentary would come out of it, and in 2019 my proposal was accepted. A beautiful labor of love, for us who didn’t know him, to get as close to him as possible.”

The myth of Jeff Buckley also lives on through a series of recording initiatives. Coinciding with the release of the docu-film in cinemas it was published by Sony Music in CD and vinyl formats the deluxe version of “Live at Sin – É”. Originally released in 1993 as a 4-track EP, the record is reborn in a new deluxe edition expanded to 34 tracks, available in a 4-LP box set with custom-designed covers and in a 2-CD version. Both editions include an 8-page color booklet with photos and liner notes, as well as live versions of “Grace”, “Last Goodbye”, “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen and other songs.

From April 17th, on the occasion of Record Store Day, will be available on Sony Music in double LP format the remastered version of the iconic album “Live À L’Olympia”, which can already be pre-ordered at this link. The tracks were recorded during two evenings in Parison 6 and 7 July 1995, during the European tour of Jeff Buckley and his band in support of the release of her album “Grace.” Recorded at the legendary Olympia theater, the album sees Buckley performing to an enthusiastic French audienceperforming half the songs from her beloved debut album (including hits like “Lover, You Should Have Come Over” and ‘Hallelujah’) as well as covers as varied as MC5’s “Kick Out The Jams,” a Led Zeppelin parody, and songs made famous by Nina Simone and Edith Piaf. Furthermore, the album contains a further live performance by Buckley and Alim Qasimov in a Qawwali singing duet taken from a sacred music festival recorded in the same year in France.
