Nice idea: a “historical” census of the fanzine of the 80s

Paolo Palmacci (Aka Paul Shiva) makes us know that we have started, and to be implementing, one mapping of Italian fanzines originated in the 1980s as part of the punk subculture and its subsequent derivations, making an interactive map in HTML (therefore clickable in correspondence with the various fanzines) to which he has joined, for a more practical and “usable” consultation, also a text list in alphabetical order.

At the moment Shiva has surveyed about 650 fanzine, of which about 290 numbers are already available as PDF.

The geographical paper of Italy clickable is located here, while the page with the alphabetical list is located here.

The philosophy of the project is instead explained here.

Shiva thus tells the ways that prompted him to start this mapping – such a crazy and ambitious project that we could not fail to approve it all heart:

“My research is conducted with an absolutely from the bottom essentially for two reasons:

1) I believe – perhaps because I also was part of it with my miserable productions during the 80s – that this sea of self -productions was a sort of amniotic liquid without which nothing, So even what is in the end in some way emerged, it would have been possible;

2) I considered that, at least on the web where I published my job, the fanzine They were not sufficiently documented nor in systematic/organic mode “.

We therefore support, and support and relaunch the work of Shiva, hoping to be able to contribute to his research by informing those who during the eighties has experienced/created/participated in these self -productions. Anyone who is able – if he had the pleasure – to provide Indications, information, news, documents, suggestions and corrections in this regard, can do so by writing here: [email protected]

The Work is still in a development phase, far to be concluded, and needs everyone’s contribution to be able to give it.
