Iron Maiden: goodbye to Paul Di’Anno
Paul Di’Anno, best known for being the lead singer of Iron Maiden between 1978 and 1981, has passed away at the age of 66.
The news was confirmed by the late musician’s family through the Conquest Music label, which shared a long message on its social channels that reads:
On behalf of his family, Conquest Music is saddened to confirm the death of Paul Andrews, known professionally as Paul Di’Anno. Paul passed away at his home in Salisbury aged 66.
Born in Chingford, East London on 17 May 1958, Paul first came to prominence as the lead singer of English heavy metal band Iron Maiden, forming between 1978 and 1981. He sang on their breakthrough debut album ‘Iron Maiden ‘ and the influential follow-up album, ‘Killers’.
After leaving Iron Maiden, Paul Di’Anno had a long and eventful recording career with Battlezone and Killers, as well as numerous solo releases and guest appearances. Despite being plagued by serious health issues in recent years that have forced him to perform in a wheelchair, Paul has continued to entertain his fans around the world, racking up over 100 shows as of 2023.
His first career retrospective album, ‘The Book of the Beast’, was released in September 2024 and features highlights of his recordings since leaving Iron Maiden.
