Zz Top: Frank Beard stops from the tour for health reasons
The OZ Top drummer Frank Beard has temporarily interrupted his participation in the band’s current tour to focus on an unspecified health problem. The news was made public by the band’s management with a declaration yesterday afternoon, March 15, explaining that John Douglas, historical member of the technical team (and, importantly, “compatriot Texano”), will replace Beard until his return, adding that Beard “hopes in rapid healing”.
Douglas had already played with the Izz Top after Beard had suffered an emergency appendix during the band’s European tour in 2002. According to Setlist.fm, Beard was not already present at the last concert of the band, which took place on Friday evening at the Amphitheatre of St. Augustine in Florida. The current training of the Izz Top includes the singer and guitarist Billy Gibbons and the bassist Elwood Francis, who took the place of the late Dusty Hill in 2021.
The Izz Top are scheduled to perform on Sunday evening at the Seven Seas Food Festival in Orlando. The current North American tour of the band should end on April 12, after which the group will move to Australia and New Zealand before a new series of dates in North America.
