William Orbit: No “Ray of Light 2” for Madonna
There will be a “Confessions on a Dance Floor 2”, but forget about a “Ray of Light 2”. The confirmation comes from the original producer of the ’98 album in which Madonna devoted herself to electronics working with William Orbit, one of the most important names on the English scene of the ’90s.
According to what we reported some time ago, Madonna has signed a new agreement with Warner Records for the publication of her new recording project, scheduled for 2026 and which will instead concern “Confessions on a Dance Floor”, the 2005 album produced by Stuart Price. Price himself should be at the helm of the production again, after having also taken care of the musical bases of the 2023 “Celebration Tour”.
Therefore, if a sequel to “Confessions on a Dance Floor” is in the plans, there will not be a “Ray of Light 2”. Orbit wrote a post on Facebook about a supposed sequel to “Ray of Light”: “Let’s put this Madonna ROL 2.0 thing to rest here and now. It can get exhausting. It will NOT happen,” he wrote.
The producer explained that he had the natural heir of that work ready, but that he had not received feedback from the singer’s entourage: “I have an album ready which, in my opinion, is truly the successor to ROL. Everything, from how it was made to how it sounds, screams it from the first bars (…) No response. I spoke to many people close to her, including her family, but I haven’t received a single syllable for over two decades. There, I said it.”
Then, to avoid controversy, he explains: “Zero, zero, absolutely zero hard feelings. I will always love that woman. Really. She made my career.”
“Ray of Light”, Madonna’s seventh studio album, was released in 1998 and won the Grammy for best pop album. “Confessions on a Dance Floor 2” will instead mark a return to Warner Records, the label with which Madonna collaborated for over 25 years after signing with Sire (Warner sublabel) in 1982.
