On June 30, the “Fresh Prince”, Will Smithhe will put aside the actor’s shoes and go on stage to perform a new original song at the 2024 BET Awards, presented for the fourth time by Taraji P. Henson.

Commenting on Smith’s upcoming performance, Connie Orlando, BET’s EVP Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy, said:

From his early days as a rapper as “The Fresh Prince” to being a box office king as one of the Bad Boys, Will Smith is truly a global icon and we are honored to welcome him back to the BET Awards stage. We look forward to Will helping create another culturally important evening not to be missed.”

The awards show will also feature performances by GloRilla, Ice Spice, Latto, Ms. Lauryn Hill, YG Marley, Muni Long, Sexyy Red, Shaboozey, Tyla and Victoria Monét. Additionally, Usher will be honored with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement BET Award.

BET Awards is an award/event created by the Black Entertainment Television network to celebrate deserving African Americans in the fields of music, acting, sports and other entertainment sectors.

Smith recently returned to music with a new collaboration with Sean Paul, “Light Em Up“, which was featured on the soundtrack to his latest film, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die.” The song marked his first release in nearly half a decade, following his guest appearance on “Will (Remix)” by Joyner Lucas in 2020.

If you don’t count his appearances on the Aladdin soundtrack, Smith has been pretty quiet on the music front, instead focusing on his acting career. In his “double role” he won the Oscar and four Grammys.

Smith certainly hinted at his renewed interest in music. This year he joined J Balvin on the stage of Coachella. Last year, after collaborating with Smith on her remixed track, Joyner Lucas celebrated the movie star’s 55th birthday with behind-the-scenes footage of the duo working on unreleased music in the studio.

“Dear hero. I never thought I’d meet you,” Lucas wrote. “It still blows my mind that I grew up idolizing you, that you then made a record about my admiration for you, that you asked me to make an entire album with you. Happy birthday. I love you until the end of time, my dear brother “.
