Why did Rob Bourdon leave Linkin Park?
The hype and curiosity for the presence of the new singer Emily Armstrong to replace the missing Chester Bennington in the formation of the return of the Linkin Park it has overshadowed the fact that even behind the drums something has changed, Colin Brittain has in fact replaced Rob Bourdon who had been in the band practically since the beginning.
The American band, which today released “The Emptiness Machine” the first single from the album “From Zero” due out on November 15, explained the reasons for Bourdon’s exit in an interview with Billboard. Mike Shinoda he said that the drummer had already decided to leave the group.
Here’s what Shinoda had to say: “Rob told us at some point, I think a few years ago, that he wanted to put some distance between himself and the band. We understood that, it was already evident. He was showing up less, he was less in touch, and I know the fans noticed that, too. He didn’t show up for the re-release of “Hybrid Theory” (in 2020, ed.) and also for the release of “Papercuts” (last April, ed.). For me, as a friend, it was sad, but at the same time I want him to do whatever makes him happy, and obviously we all wish him the best.”
Shinoda further added speaking of
Colin Brittain
: “He plays drums in concert, drums are his first instrument, but he also plays guitar, bass and keyboards, and he produces and mixes. We have a similar way of looking at music, of starting from scratch, and I really enjoyed working with him and exchanging ideas.”
