When the Lynyrd Skynyrd made Mick Jagger angry
This is a story that dates back to 1976. On August 21 of that year i Rolling Stones They were the main attraction of the Knebworth Festival in England. The band the previous April had released the album “Black and Blue”and that would have been the last concert of the year, after the group of Jagger and Richards had presented the album along about forty dates throughout Europe, of course Italy excluded.
To open the stones live were called Hot Tuna, 10cc And Lynyrd Skynyrd. The latter, on the launching pad, stole the scene going against the wishes of Mick Jagger. The stage was set up with the logo of Rolling Stones, The legendary language. Jagger wanted the opening groups to their show they performed remaining in the mouth, on stage and did not lead to playing on the tongue that stretched to the public.
In Knebworth there were about 200,000 people, including also Paul and Linda McCartney. The public was practically asleep when i Lynyrd Skynyrd they got on stage, but hadn’t dealt with “Free Bird”. When the solo began, the public woke up from his torpor, and Van Zrant pushed the group to take possession of the language by contravening the dictates of Jagger.
The singer of the southern band of the United States, Ronnie Van Zrant, He loved the Stones and probably did not want to make a rude to the English band, but only give those present the best possible show. In 1965 Ronnie saw them performing in the native Jacksonville, Florida. Legenda wants that at that concert, the unfortunate Frontman – who died at the age of 29 in a plane crash just over a year later, on October 20, 1977 – decided that he wanted to be the singer of a band.
Years later, about that concert, the journalist Ian Fortnam He wrote: “Thirty -one years later, I have never seen an audience reacting to support a band in the same way that Knebworth did with Lynyrd Skynyrd”.
