“We don’t have to lose faith in love”

Cristina Lamar She defines herself as a storyteller and, despite her youth, she knows the terrain well. After a first album in 2024 produced by Richard Blair, winner of a Latin Grammy, he has recently published “A flower on the moon”a compendium of songs with very careful lyrics and a natural and organic sound. She also has a warm voice with many nuances, in the vein of what Sílvia Pérez Cruz has been doing. “What Silvia inspires me is that you can have a career from the heart. We have the tools, but also the reasons why you do something.”

Cristina Lamar He comes and goes, he has spent the summer in Catalonia, performing at two important festivals, but he already plans to return for new adventures. “Now I combine Latin America with periods in which I am here. And when I go there I am not only in Colombia, I will also visit Brazil and Mexico. With my music I travel wherever there are concerts. In the case of Brazil, it happened that the person who mixed and mastered the album was from there. And it is true that it is very difficult for them to import music, since they are very nationalistic in that sense, but thanks to those connections, I have been able to create a community and be part of a circle of singer-songwriters.”
The versatility of Cristina Lamar It is the result of the concern of a generation like yours, which is not governed by a single pattern. “Having such marked projects, we already know where we can play and where we can’t, and sometimes managers only look for the option of a room. I, for example, in Bogotá, presented the album in a planetarium. There is that new generation three hundred and sixty that understands art in any space.”
“A flower on the moon” It is an album that transmits closeness and whose songs, above all, are warm. “On this album I wanted people to see me as someone very transparent and that’s why the idea of the storyteller, even though, when I was with this album, I was not going through my best moment. I noticed that I lacked love. That’s why that ‘beautiful love’ thing. And coincidences in life, my nephew was born and everything made sense. We don’t have to lose faith in love, but not so much in the one that has to come as in the one we are living in the present”. Perhaps for this reason, flowers, the moon and love function as authentic hallmarks of his speech. “Love and flowers are very present, of course. Giving flowers for no reason is very nice. You are choosing them for someone specific, so giving them is always a very special detail.”
After turning the wheel, in recent times the artist from Lloret de Mar has become closer to folklore. “I don’t choose the genre I do. Since I was a teenager I knew who I was, but I was afraid to show it. So, why do I focus on folklore? We start from the Mediterranean, but we reach other folklores and what attracts me is the great purity it has.”
If something moves Cristina Lamar It is freedom. The freedom to create and go wherever she wants, a constant movement that defines her as a person and as an artist. “You don’t choose the path, but it comes and that’s it. Many people asked me for a pop album and, when we got to the studio, something else came out. It was the album that I wanted to make and I didn’t want anything other than to be myself.”
