U2, in Italy in 2027?

U2, in Italy in 2027?

Yes, we know: theoretically the question marks in the headlines should not appear – they indicate that the news is not there yet. Or not at all. However, there is some update on U2 that is worth reporting, from U2songs, a traditionally well-informed and reliable, albeit unofficial, source. Look at the plans of the band, which, let’s remember, is always able to surprise: as with the publication of the EP “Days of ash”, which arrived almost unexpectedly.
But in the linked publication – the official Propaganda fanzine – there are several confirmations to these rumours, in particular those concerning a tour for 2027.
And it could see several dates in Italian stadiums. According to U2 sources, stadiums have already been optioned in various cities in our country, in the UK and Germany, as well as 4 dates in Croke Parke, Dublin. This doesn’t mean that all the dates will take place: but the plans would be to start on tour at the beginning of 2027 in South America, then arrive in Europe in the summer, and then in America – reversing custom, because no tour of the band has ever started from Latin America. According to U2songs, the tour is expected to run until and including 2028

Bono had written in propaganda:

We will try to recreate that carnival atmosphere in the audience, where we hope to be able to show each other not only where we are, but also where we want to go… It takes some serious fun. We can’t let the bad news always overshadow the good news of waking up in the morning and being in the same place together… We’re so much better in person!

The (unofficial) sources confirm a new album coming in the autumn of 2026, with a single for the summer – with an important additional detail: September 25, 1976 is the date that marks the formation of the band, and the album release will take place around that date to celebrate U2’s fifty-year career.

At the end of 2025, the new U2 album was said to be “almost finished”, with the emergence of an increasingly defined time plan. When it arrives, the new U2 album will be the first unreleased project since 2017, the year of the release of “Songs of Experience” – in these plans, a new single could arrive as early as the summer.

When Rockol interviewed Bono last spring, the singer summed up the inner workings of the band this way: “Springsteen said a funny thing about bands: “Democracy is needed for places like Iraq. But not for a rock band.” He is always amazed by the fact that the four of us U2 divide everything equally and that we are still very democratic. He has a band, but there’s only one Boss. In U2 there are four bosses.” A dynamic that explains well the long lead times and many discussions behind each project.
