There’s a new remastered version of a Van Halen live performance

What a beautiful gift they give us Van Halen. The adrenaline-fueled performance taken from “Live Without A Net“, remastered in HD, is available on the band’s official YouTube channel. The entire concert film has been remastered and included in a new expanded edition of “5150”, already available for purchase.

Van Halen released “5150 (Expanded Edition)” in celebration of the album’s 40th anniversary. The vinyl/3CD/Blu-ray edition includes the 1986 album remastered directly from the original master tapes, under the supervision of the band’s longtime engineer, Donn Landee.

The band began a new chapter 40 years ago with the release of “5150,” the first album with the lineup consisting of Sammy Hagar, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen And Michael Anthony. “5150” marked the band’s first number one album with hits such as “Why Can’t This Be Love”, “Dreams” And “Best Of Both Worlds”.

Recording of “5150″ took place at Eddie’s 5150 Studios in California beginning in late 1985. Released on March 24, 1986, the album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, becoming the band’s first number one album. It quickly became one of the best-selling albums of Van Halen’s career, going six-times platinum in the United States, and was followed by the long and highly successful 5150 Tour. On stage, the new lineup focused on previously unreleased material like “Love Walks In,” “Best Of Both Worlds” and “Get Up,” while continuing to perform early VH hits like “Panama” and “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love.”

“5150 (Expanded Edition)” includes over 90 minutes of previously unreleased live recordings from the August 27, 1986 concert at the New Haven Veterans Memorial Coliseum in New Haven, Connecticut. Added to these are a selection of rare versions in single 7″ format and extended versions in 12″ format. The Blu-ray includes a new high-definition version of “Live Without a Net,” the double-platinum certified 1986 Van Halen concert video, also recorded that same August evening in New Haven, along with promotional videos for “Dreams” and “Why Can’t This Be Love.”

Separate versions of 5150, with the remastered album and rarities, are also available in a 2-CD box set or double LP on black or green vinyl.
