The Watch play Genesis, in Italy and Europe
Probably the best-known group keeping alive the artistic legacy of Genesis responds to the name The Musical Box. A Canadian band that takes its name from the song of the same name included in the third album of Genesis “Nursery crime” (read the review here) and which has been bringing the music of the British band to the stage for over thirty years, slavishly reproducing the group’s concerts from the Seventies. For their quality i The Musical Box they received the blessing from them Genesis who provided them with some period costumes and, sometimes, even joined them in concert.
If i The Musical Box are the best known cover band of Genesiseven i The Watch they don’t joke and they are no exception. The Milanese group – formed in 1997 with the name The Night Watch – after some lineup changes, is now made up of Andrea Giustiniani (electric guitar, 12 string acoustic guitar), Mattia Rossetti (bass, 12-string electric and acoustic guitar, Moog Taurus bass pedals, vocals), Simone Rossetti (voice, flute), Valerio De Vittorio (organ, piano, synthesizers, mellotron, acoustic guitar, vocals) e Francesco Vaccarezza (drums, vocals) and is inspired by the progressive rock of the seventies and in particular by the music of Genesis.
Under the name The Night Watch, the group released only one album, “Twilight”, in 2000, before disbanding. Reborn the following year under the name The Watch, the band released the albums “Ghost” (2001) and “Vacuum” (2004). To date the group has released eight studio albums (including “Twilight”) and their latest album in 2017, “Seven”the former guitarist of the band also participated Genesis Steve Hackett. But it is live that the band gives the best of itself. Live concerts “The Watch plays Genesis” are dedicated to the Genesis albums of the first period, covering a time span that goes from “Trespass” (1970) until “Seconds Out” (1977).
