Sal Da Vinci: "Am I among the favourites? I make superstitious gestures..."

The video of Sal Da Vinci’s first performance on Rai, at 13 years old

In 1982 Iron Maiden released their third album “The number of the beast”, the Clash shipped “Combat rock” (the album of “Should I stay or should I go”) to stores, Bruce Springsteen basked in “Nebraska” (two years before “Born in the USA”). Duran Duran climbed the world charts with “Rio”, while REM recorded “Murmur”, which the following year would mark the recording debut of Michael Stipe and his companions. In Italy, Vasco Rossi participated in the Sanremo Festival with “Vado al massimo” and published the ellepì of the same name, Loredana Bertè consecrated herself with “Traslocando” and “Non sono una donna” and Garbo published “Scortati”, one of the cult records of the Italian new wave. In all this, in 1982 a very young Neapolitan singer made his debut on Rai. He is only 13 years old, he is the son of an institution of Neapolitan music and has just released his debut album: forty-four years later he will win the Sanremo Festival. Yes, of course we are talking about Sal Da Vinci. While his “Per semper Sì” is going crazy, the video of the very first appearance on Rai of the singer-songwriter of “Rossetto e caffè” resurfaces online. The clip comes directly from the Rai archives: it is the video of Sal Da Vinci’s performance on the second day of Ambrogino 82, on 7 December 1982, to the tune of “Hai fatto buca”.

Sal Da Vinci arrives on stage on a scooter and sings the song on side a of the 45 rpm single he has just released at the children’s music festival (on side b there is “E tira a campà…”).
