The sequel to “This is spinal tap”: there are teaser and release date

After a long wait and some unexpected along the road, “Spinal Tap II” finally has a release date. According to “Deadline”, the sequel to the famous 1984 film will arrive in the cinemas on 12 September 2025.

Initially scheduled for March 2024, the feature film had been postponed due to the strike of screenwriters and actors who paralyzed Hollywood for months in 2023. Now, thanks to the distribution edited by the independent production house “Bleecker Street”, the return of the Spinal Tap is officially on the calendar.

“Spinal Tap II: The End Continues” is the complete title of the film, a mockumentary, which will mark the return of the most absurd band of rock. Behind the camera we still find Rob Reiner, former director and co-writer of the original “This is spinal tap”. In addition to directing, Reiner will also return to interpret Marty DiBergi, the director of the documentary on the Spinal Tap. “I am happy to work with the Bleecker Street team, who cares about the legacy of the spinal taps, and to give another possibility of relevance to Marty Dibergi,” said Rob Reiner irony.

Obviously the band cannot be missing: Christopher Guest, Michael Mckean and Harry Shearer will resume their roles in the role of members of the phantom band metal band, respectively by Nigel Tufnel, David St.

Hubbins and Derek Smalls. But the cast does not stop here: Paul McCartney and Elton John are among the already confirmed guest stars, promising to add a touch of authentic rock’n’roll to the comedy. According to what was always reported by Deadline last year, the cast of the sequel, already announced in May of 2022 and of which the filming in New Orleans began, will also include Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Lars Ulrich of Metallica. Furthermore, the new film will see Fran Drescher hold again the role of the publicist of the band Bobbi Flekman, and will include new faces such as those of Don Lake, John Michael Higgins, Jason Acuña, Nina Conti, Griffin Matthews, Kerry Godliman, Chris Addison, Brad Williams and Paul Shaffer.

“This is spinal tap” is a mockumentary – a false documentary – which tells the (dis) adventures of a British Heavy Metal band, the spinal taps, struggling with a disastrous tour in the United States. Among amplifiers that reach up to 11, drummers who die in improbable circumstances and embarrassing scenography (such as the famous monolith of Stonehenge in miniature), the film has become a milestone of the musical satire.

Released in 1984, the feature film has been able to grasp all the absurdities of the world of rock with precision and affection, earning the status of absolute cult between musicians and fans. It is one of those films that, although deliberately exaggerating, has ended up being all too realistic: over the years, many artists – from Ozzy Osbourne to Metallica – have admitted to having recognized themselves in some of the surreal situations of the film.
