The return of Greta Van Fleet with a new single
After scaring fans with a cryptic video, and immediately reassuring them by denying any dissolution, Greta Van Fleet are back with a new single. The song is titled “Play your games” and marks the band’s return with new music from 2023, the year of the release of the album “Starcatcher”.
“It represents this beautiful ability to seize the moment,” guitarist Jake Kiszka said in the press release accompanying the single’s release.
The new song is the Michigan quartet’s first new song in three years and follows the group’s performance this week at New York’s Bowery Ballroom for what was their first concert since September 2024. The 12-song setlist included their debut single “Highway Song” as well as much-loved songs from their three albums, including “When the Curtain Falls,” “Safari Song” and “Meeting the Master.” A pair of new songs, “Play Your Games” and “Tear It Down,” were also world premiered during the concert.
Although Greta Van Fleet have not yet announced the release of their fourth album, “Play Your Games” hints that new music could be coming very soon. The song was co-produced by the band together with Mike Elizondo, who in the past has worked with, among others, Fiona Apple and Sheryl Crow.
Earlier this month the band posted some cryptic messages on their social media channels, leading some fans to believe the group was on the verge of breaking up. Less than a week later, however, Greta Van Fleet denied those hypotheses with a new message: “We’re back, baby!”.
