The new entries in the prestigious National Recording Registry

The National Recording Registry is a list of culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant sound recordings that reflect life in the United States. It was established by the National Recording Preservation Act of 2000 and is administered by the National Recording Preservation Board, which annually selects recordings for preservation in the Library of Congress.

This year, the albums eligible to update the list also include those by Green DayOf Notorious BIG and gods Blondietherefore defined among “the sounds that define history” and preserved in the prestigious National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress.

Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden named this year's 25 additions to the archive, which also includes songs and albums by ABBA, the Chicks, the Cars, Bill Withers, Jefferson Airplane, Kronos Quartet, Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick .

Last year included Madonna's “Like a Virgin,” Mariah Carey's “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” Queen Latifah's “All Hail the Queen” and Daddy Yankee's “Gasolina,” among others.

Below is the full list of this year's new releases, which includes Green Day's “Dookie,” Biggie's “Ready to Die,” Blondie's “Parallel Lines,” Abba's “Arrival” and “Wide Open Spaces.” of the Chicks.
