The Loved Ones, new album and concert at Purple Weekend

The Loved Ones return to recording activity with “LATEST HITS!”new album produced by the musician and producer Nick Waterhouse. Recorded on analog tape, the album recovers the sound of the sixties that has marked the band’s career, with twelve songs that combine blues, garage rock, Merseybeat and freakbeat. The album will be published on October 23 in digital format through SofaBurn Records and on vinyl through lovemonk.

The classic group formation: Xan McCurdy (guitar), Michael Therieau (low), John Kent (battery) and Bart Davenport (voice and guitar), returns to composing and recording together after years developing their own projects. The twelve original compositions, with lyrics by Davenport and Therieaucover different aspects of sixties rock’n’roll: from the boogie of “Mad, Bad LUV” to the Merseybeat sound of “Down That Road”, passing through the harmonies of “True Love Or Temptation” and the freakbeat of “Don’t Turn Your Back”. The album also includes “Over & Over”, inspired by Jamaican ska and bluebeat, in which Threieau assumes lead vocals for the first time on an album by the band.

The Loved Ones formed in Oakland in 1990 and became one of the bands of the California mod scene, signing to Hightone Records in 1992, where they released their first two albums, “The Price For Love” and “Better Do Right”. In 1994 they made the leap to Europe with a tour that went through Spain, France and the Netherlands, and a year later the group broke up with a farewell concert at the Great American Music Hall from San Francisco. After the dissolution, Xan McCurdy joined Cakea band of which he continues to be a part, while Bart Davenport has published eight solo albums.
