The Kolors: “In Italy there is real music that can fly abroad”

“You who make love with love” is the song that saw The Kolors return to the race in Sanremo 2025. “It is a cry of lightness”, explains Stash, guest of the Rockol Lounge at the headquarters of the Tenco club. With the band we not only talked about Sanremo, but in general of the relationship between Italian music and the international dimension. This summer, in fact, the group will be the protagonist of a European tour.

The song “You with who you make love”, is a hymn to lightness?

To say that a hymn is quite pretentious. It is a cry of lightness. Maybe it is our hymn to lightness because we think that most of the positive things, therefore consequently also love, which is the main element, the prince feeling, indeed the king of positivity, is born from moments and situations in which It has been guided by the reasoning and the scheme, but from something instinctive, something that comes from another dimension. But here, before calling her hymn, I would call her song.

What convinced you to return to Sanremo?

I understand your question, obviously refers to the logic of the rankings because success is often compared to rankings, numbers and everything.

We are quite far from that type of reasoning. It could be interpreted as a contrast to what I am saying, but we do not see competition in music, nor in any other form of art. Then of course there is a TV broadcast, which wants the winner to keep the viewer glued also and it is right that it is so. But the story tells us that the winners, indeed the non -winners, are often the ones who have won over time. But I don’t want to fall into rhetoric because what I just told will certainly be taken for granted. We limit ourselves to saying that we are far from any reasoning or logic of ranking, competition in art. If there is the possibility with your new song to make you hear from all over Italy, welcome.

The Kolors are a band strongly known as Italian, but you also have an international projection.

The first record success we achieved abroad was thanks to “Italo Disco”. And I think everything is back. We made a good period of songs totally in English with the ambition to leave Italy, instead then you go out of our country with a song sung in Italian called “Italo Disco”, which makes you enter the life of the People who don’t even understand the text at the first look 100. I am reminded of the verse “I start the bass of the Righeira” sung by a German girl or of German Switzerland, who knows the song by heart. It makes me think with extreme conviction that music has no languages, music is something that generates vibrations that if they touch something – that it is Neapolitan, Chinese or Italian – there is no language.

What fascinates you of international music that you would bring in Italy?

I think that in Italy there is extremely authentic and genuine stuff, for this reason the reverse process could happen, that is, Italy that brings out something extremely genuine.

If I think of the Arctic Monkeys, they are something that is true took full hands from some things that already existed, but they have such a strong identity that they come everywhere. And this thing could perhaps also happen from Italy. In our little one, with our “Italian Disco”, hearing a German audience in a stadium singing “making a penalty kick” with a sketched Italian is something that really makes you understand that there are no borders, that is, not even those of the language. Something authentic, which has a strong identity and originality of a strong identity, which does not monkey, in my opinion arrives, can arrive safely now with all the means that are also quietly out of Italy.
