The best Pink Floyd lyrics by Roger Waters for David Gilmour

Busy on tour in support of his new solo album “Luck and strange”, (read our review here) released last September 6, nine years after “Rattle that lock” (read it here review), David Gilmour was the subject of an interview for the Guardian in which he had the chance to answer questions asked directly by some fans.

A reader, under the pen name “evermost”, asked: “What are some of the best lyrics you think Roger has ever written?” The legendary guitarist, who in the meantime also made it known that there is nothing that can make him return to the stage with Roger Watersthen revealed what he thinks are the best lyrics written by the former Pink Floyd bandmate and said:

“Let me think for a moment: how about a song called ‘Walk with me Sydney’?”

The song, of which journalist Christopher Lord confesses that he does not know the lyrics, provoking laughter from Gilmour who claims to be “not surprised” underlining that “I don’t think it has been officially recorded”, was originally written by Waters in 1965 and The author of the song recalls the lyrics as “scary”. Speaking to the Times in 2015, for an article celebrating 50 years of Pink Floyd, Waters said: “I sang my first song on a subway train, busking to raise money for Rag Student Week. Week. It was written to be sung by a girl and it was called ‘Walk with me Sydney’. And yes, it relates to Syd Barrett.”

Here is the text.

Among other things, the song was included in the “1965-1967 Cambridge ST/ATION” collection of the “The Early Years 1965 – 1972” box set, with pieces from Pink Floyd’s early period with Syd Barrett, containing demos, non-original singles contained in the original albums, unreleased tracks such as “Vegetable Man” and “In The Beechwoods”, as well as recordings taken from the BBC sessions and a live show in Stockholm in 1967.
