The albums of the week: from Arcade Fire to Salmo and Thom Yorke

An incandescent week. This Friday 9 May is marked by several relevant releases ranging from rock to pop passing through rap, but there is also field for experimentation and a less beaten sound. The spotlight of international publications are, of course, focused on the Arcade Fire, but there is also great curiosity to understand what Mark Pritchard-Thom Yorke have combined together, in addition to the two Queen Kali Uchis and Pinkpantheress. On the Italian front, the fever on the return of Salmo rises, but there is also no lack of goodies as the new album of the Murena studio, in the sign of a fresh and never pedantic experimentation. Here below, selected by Rockol, some of the most relevant records out on Friday.

Arcade Fire – “Pink Elephant”

The early April The Arcade Fire announced their new album, “Pink Elephant”, coming out on May 9th. The album comes three years after the previous “We”. Win Butler and Régine Chassagne have revealed it using the app of their fan club, anticipating the new song, “Year of the Snake” accompanied by a video by Mark Sethergast. The album is produced by Daniel Lenois and comes after a complex period for the band.
The message of the Canadian musicians to the fans: “We are win and queens of the Arcade Fire. Our new album is called ‘Pink Elephant’ and will be released on May 9th. Keep it here in the ‘Circle of Trust’. Take care of each other. Thanks for spending some time with us. I know that time is the only thing you can’t buy, so leave your job, call your best friend. Strange, it’s probably good. ”

Salmo – “Ranch”

“Ave Maria, full of anger. Bend your shoulders, open the cage. And let me go out, I am the dog barking. This night is full moon and we are on fire”. Salmo is back. And he did it in the best way: with a single incandescent, published last week, produced by himself and by Low Kidd and Verano. It is titled “On Fire” and is full of a stratified Dubstep sound, of bars that cut and underground fury, which the Sardinian rapper orchestra with tight teeth. It is the first bullet of his new album “Ranch” whose release date was revealed: on May 9th. The project has only one feat: Kaos, one of his masters, in “Bye Bye”. If this single is only a tasting, the new record chapter has all the credentials to be one of the most important works of his discography.

Murena Studio – “Notturno”

“Notturno” is the new album of the Murena studio to be released on Friday 9 May. Produced by Tommaso Colliva and anticipated by the single “Jazzhighlanders”, in “Night” the Milanese band starts bare as never before. Its unmistakable and innovative sound mixture, a jazz and hardcore fusion of electronic rap, is intertwined with puffing, introspective and sincere texts. Words that crystallize with power and surgical precision feelings, changes and reflections experienced by the band in the last two years, telling an inner and intense growth path, at times also painful. Love, anger, melancholy, regrets, disillusions, new awareness and trajectories: a journey that talks about the night and move inside, to get to look at the light of a new day with shiny and more aware eyes. Eleven songs that tell the settlements of continuous training, in which the study Murena pour their feeling without filters, shaping an album that at the same time manages to be intimate and direct, deep and disruptive

Mark Pritchard and Thom Yorke – “Tall Tales”

It was 2011 when Mark Pritchard, British electronic music icon, remixed “Bloom” of Radiohead. That was the first time that the careers of Pripchard and Yorke were intertwined, in some way. Five years later, Yorke was enlisted by Pirchard for the song “Beautiful People”. And in 2019 the musician remixed one of the songs contained in “Anima”, “Not the news”. Now this joint album arrives, to which the two musicians started working in 2020, during the Pandemia months, exchanging files in the middle of Lockdown. “Tall Tales” was anticipated by the singles “Back in the game”, “This conversation is missing your voice” and “Gangsters”.

Kali Uchis – “Sincerely”

One year after the previous “Orquídeas”, the Latin Pop diva returns to the American R&B sauce which in the co -it of her career has already won a Grammy Award (in 2021 with “10%”, engraved together with KaytraNada, such as “Best Dance Recording”), an American Music Award, two Billboard Music Awards and obtained five nominations for Latin Grammy Awards. Kali Uchis, born in 1994, revealed that the album was inspired by “an event that changed her life”, but did not provide any detail about it. According to Uchis, “Sincerely” speaks of the “complexity of life” and the attempt to “find joy in life despite the world”, to “appreciate every moment and not give life for granted”. The singer describes him as his most “existential”, “honest” and “beautiful” work to date.

PINKPANTHERESS – “Fancy that”

His name began to circulate worldwide two years ago, thanks to that “Boy’s a Liar” engraved together with Ice Spice, a feminist hymn who made Victoria Beverley Walker, this is the real name of PinkPantheress, one of the nascent stars of the pop with new generation stars and stripes (we are talking about a girl born in 2001). Now PinkPantheresress returns with a mixtape entitled “Fancy that”. For the project he drew “more classic dance music”: among the inspirational sources there are Basement Jaxx, Groove Armada and Fatboy Slim.
