Teardo and Bollani together for “Laura Palmer’s Theme”

The video for “Laura Palmer’s Theme”, performed by Teho Teardo and Stefano Bollani, was released today. The song, the classic by Angelo Badalamenti, is taken from the album “Teho Teardo Plays Twin Peaks and Other Infinitives” out on October 31st on CD, digitally and from mid-November also on vinyl.

Signed by directors Marco Porsia and Peter Lynch, the video was shot in 2024 in Ontario, Canada, and is set in surreal places: the Black Dice in Toronto, a Japanese rockabilly bar and a hidden location in Halton Hills, not far from Toronto, a protected area where abandoned cars lie in various states of decay.

A “Teho Teardo Plays Twin Peaks and Other InfinitivesIn addition to Stefan Bollani, Abel Ferrara, Keeley Forsyth and numerous other musicians also collaborated.

Are we falling in love? sings a white voice on the album’s first track, “Falling. It is the same question that Teho Teardo asked himself during one of the nocturnal environmental recordings he carries out in the woods, on the border between Italy and Slovenia.

I asked myself if while I was there” – says Teho – “immersed in the darkness of the woods I was falling in love with something, without knowing what it was. I found that question in a song, Falling, which for this reason opens the album. And so the melody of the theme of ‘Twin Peaks’ seems to have reached me through the songs of birds. I looked for other melodic fragments and found them among the compositions of Barbara Strozzi, Henry Purcell, Angelo Badalamenti and even Bach. These melodies were also tracks that guided me in my research into sound. I transformed them into a new harmonious context that was mine alone.”

“Stefano Bollani” – continues Teho – “helped me probe these universes. His piano was a magnifying glass, an instrument of deeper knowledge, a support in research. To him, to the voices of Keeley Forsyth, Abel Ferrara and little Vito Bondanese, to all the musicians who played on this album I am grateful for what we discovered”.

After the preview on 14 October in Turin Spiritualità, Teho Teardo will present the songs from the new album in two concerts: on 29 October at the MAXXI in Rome and on 31 October in Parma, at the Complesso monumentale della Pilotta for the Festival il Rumore del mourning (where he will also play on 18 October with Blixa Bargeld).
