Summer 2024 is not just about “Sex and Samba”: the playlist
It’s popular everywhere. Social, streaming, radio. You can listen to it on the beaches, in shopping malls, in restaurants, in discos. It may be too early to draw conclusions, but “Sesso e samba” seems to have already established itself as the hit of the summer of 2024. For seven consecutive weeks at the top of the Fimi/Gfk chart of the most listened to singles in Italy, the hit by Tony Effe and Gaia seems to be unstoppable: from May 22nd – the day of its release – to today the single has totaled a whopping 50.6 million streams on Spotify, that is, an average of 1 million listens per day, while the video clip on YouTube has 25 million views.
But even though it seems to be over, the race for the title of hit is actually still long. And there are many hits in the running, all collected in the playlist “.Hits Summer 2024“, That you can listen below, by clicking on “play”.
Starting with a little more delay than “Sex and Samba”, “Short Stories” by Annalisa and Tananai doesn’t sit back and watch: from June 4th to today the song has totaled 15.6 million views and is among the most played on Italian radio. If Tony Effe and Gaia with “Sesso e samba” totally immerse themselves in the sounds and spirit of summer hits, Annalisa and Tananai’s is instead an anti-hit: that of “Storie brevi”, as we also wrote in our review, is a delicate pop, a bit vintage, that stays in your head, but without sticking in an obsessive and sticky way, and this makes the difference.
And then there is Annathis summer’s outsider.
While the debut album of the rapper from La Spezia “Vera baddie” conquers the charts and breaks records, becoming the first by an Italian artist in ten years to remain at the top of the Fimi/Gfk chart of the best-selling songs of the week for three consecutive weeks, Anna Pepe – this is the real name of the voice of “Bando” – dives into the sea of hits with the most summery song of the album, “30 °C”: “30 °C represents that desire for the sea and escape that takes you when it’s dying of heat outside. The sound of the waves, a good cocktail, the sand under your feet and you already feel much better. It’s also a hymn to feeling good and at ease, showing self-confidence”, she says about her song. “Aaatanned, beautiful and eyes like the sea”, Anna sings in the incisive chorus, perfect for humming.
From the pop championship, two heavyweights who have built part of their respective careers on the genre have arrived in the 2024 Champions League of hits: on one hand Mahmoodon the other Elodie. The first after hits like “Calipso” (four times platinum in 2019), “Dorado” (double platinum in 2020), “Klan” (Gold in 2021), this year aims to confirm himself with “Ra ta ta”, and the numbers say he is on the right track: the hit has 11.5 million streams on Spotify. The Roman singer, however, after successes like “Guaranà”, “Tribale”, “Nero Bali” and “Ciclone” is preparing for the two concerts that next summer will see her perform at the San Siro Stadium in Milan and at the Diego Armando Maradona in Naples with the first piece of her next recording project, “Black Nirvana”: impossible to stand still.
