Sum 41 closed their career with the last concert

The adventure of Sum 41 has officially ended: the Canadian pop punk band He closed the farewell tour and a career of almost thirty years with the last concert staged on Thursday 30 January at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

The show was the second of two consecutive evenings in the hometown of Deryck Whibley and associates, thus marking the end of the group, which in May 2023 had made it known that he would dissolve after a last tour and the publication of a final album. The latest study work of Sum 41 came, as a double album with the title “Heaven: X: Hell” (here our review), on March 29, 2024.

Deryck Whibley and companions kicked off at the last concert of their career with one of their songs most loved by fans, “Motivation“From” All killer no filler “, with the frontman who loaded the audience from the beginning saying:” Lord and gentlemen, let’s give inside … Great! We have an entire journey of emotions to live together “. The main set also included short covers of “Raining Blood” of the Slayers e “Master of Puppets” of the Metallica, before ending with the classics of Sum 41 “Fat Lip” And “Still Waiting”. The band then returned to the stage for two encores: the first closed with “In Too Deep”while the second marked the end of the show with “So long goodbye” and the final “Welcome to Hell”.

Even if the Toronto concert was the last of their career, Sum 41 will be present on March 30th Juno Awards of Vancouverwhere they will be inserted in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. The group greeted the Italian public during 2024 with three concerts, on 9 July in Milan (here our story) and on 16 and 17 November in Bologna and Rome.

In an interview with Rockol last year, thinking about the end of his band, Deryck Whibley had said:

“Opportunities missed, of course, there are many missed opportunities. There are many things we have done and many mistakes we have made. There have been many successes and things that I am happy, but there are also things that we could have done differently, perhaps .
But, as regards regrets, no, because I like it where we arrived. I love my life. And I love all the things we have faced, all the difficulties, which make the story interesting. This makes you think and say: “Wow, look at what we did”. If everything had been easy, it would have been quite boring. It would have been as if every door had been opened for us: we would feel like spoiled children “.
