Sting releases new single
Today Sting releases his new single “I Wrote Your Name (Upon My Heart)”, accompanied by a video clip with a montage of live images
In “I Wrote Your Name (Upon My Heart)” Sting and his three-piece rock band offer a variation on what famed computer scientist Dr. Godfried Toussaint called “the rhythm that conquered the world”: the syncopated rhythm called the “Bo Diddley beat,” in fact, has fueled some of the most driving songs in the entire rock music canon from its West African origins, through its incarnation within Latin music, to Bo Diddley’s 1955 self-titled single from which it takes its name.
In “I Wrote Your Name (Upon My Heart)” Sting presents a variation of this very catchy rhythm.
With the musical contribution of Dominique Miller on the guitar, Chris Maas on drums and Martin Kierszenbaum on organ, Sting sings, plays bass and electric guitar on “I Wrote Your Name (Upon My Heart),” his first single from his 2021 album “The Bridge.”
The video for the song is made to celebrate the band’s new three-piece live lineup, “STING 3.0,” and the upcoming launch of its 20-date North American tour, which kicks off with two nights at Detroit’s Fillmore Theater on September 17 and 18.
“I Wrote Your Name (Upon My Heart)” is produced by Martin “Cherry Cherry Boom Boom” Kierszenbaum, mixed by Robert Orton and mastered by Gene Grimaldi.
In his career, Sting has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, received 17 Grammy Awards and sold over 100 million albums overall. A composer, singer-songwriter, actor, author, and activist, Sting has also received a Golden Globe Award, four Academy Award nominations, a Tony nomination, Billboard magazine’s Century Award, and the Kennedy Center Honors.
Sting offers his support to human rights organizations such as Amnesty International and Live Aid. Together with his wife Trudie Styler, Sting founded the Rainforest Fund in 1989 to protect the world’s rainforests and the indigenous peoples who live there.
