In the interview published by the British newspaper The Guardian with the drummer of Police Stewart Copelandbeyond talk about Sting, Paul McCartney and David Bowiealso said a few words about the drummer of Motley CrueTommy Lee. Revealing how his public image is in total contrast to his character.

TO Stewart Copeland the journalist from the British newspaper asked who, in his opinion, was the most unpleasant rock star. This is the response of the 73-year-old American musician: “We artists never see the negative side of our colleagues. We’re talking about Tommy Lee, the drummer. He’s a very sweet guy, very cheerful, a real hoot. Apparently he has a bad reputation… but obviously, I don’t see it.”

He then went on to explain how artists often perceive different sides of their colleagues than the audience might expect. “The most nightmarish artists you can name are all as sweet as puppies.”

The less-than-spotless reputation of Tommy Lee stems largely from his lively and tumultuous personal life. As reported by Ultimate Classic Rock, Lee faced a 1998 conviction for spousal abuse. Despite these adversities he has always maintained a strong bond with his bandmates. Years ago, the bassist of Motley Crue, Nikki Sixxspeaking about his friendship with Lee, explained: “Tommy and I have been together, we’ve been friends for almost 30 years. Not many people have friends for 30 years.”
