Steven Wilson: solo album “The Overview” released, then tour

Steven Wilson announced details of his eighth studio album, “The Overview”which will be released by Fiction Records on March 14, 2025. The album, lasting forty-two minutes, is made up of just two songs: “Objects Outlive Us” And “The Overview”each inspired by the “panoramic effect” experienced by astronauts looking at Earth from space.

From “The Overview”, Steven Wilson says: “It is a 42-minute journey based on the so-called ‘panoramic effect,’ in which astronauts viewing the Earth from space undergo a transformative cognitive change, often experiencing an overwhelming appreciation and perception of beauty and a heightened sense of connection with other people and with the Earth as a whole. However, not all experiences are positive; some see the Earth truly for what it is, insignificant and lost in the vastness of space, and the human race as a struggling species. As a reflection of this, the album features images and stories of life on Earth, both good and bad.”

Although initially a solo recording, the definitive version of “The Overview” makes use of the studio help of historic collaborators Craig Blundell (drums), Adam Holzman (keyboards) e Randy McStine (guitars), as well as a series of lyrics by Andy Partridge of the XTC that contribute to forming the history of “Objects Outlive Us”.

“The Overview” will be available on CD / LP / Blu-ray / D2C exclusive box set / D2C red vinyl LP + poster / mint LP. The vinyl versions were specifically mastered at half speed by Miles Showell at Abbey Road.

The album is accompanied by a film made by Miles Skarin. The film and album will premiere at the BFI IMAX cinema in London on Tuesday 25 February. The film will also be screened in Dolby Atmos in Italy, on March 5th from 7.00 pm at the Barberini cinema in Rome. An appointment in preview and in the presence of Steven Wilson with live Q&A.

From 9 to 31 January, tickets will be reserved for those who purchase the LP Mint edition album bundle with a specially priced cinema ticket, available only at Discoteca Laziale. From February 1st, tickets will be available for purchase directly at Cinema Barberini.

After the release of “The Overview”, Steven Wilson will undertake a long tour in Europe in the months of May and June 2025 which also includes two events in Italy: 7 June at the Teatro Degli Arcimboldi in Milan and 8 June at the Parco della Musica in Rome.
