The guitarists Steve Hackett And Steve Rothery are preparing to release a collaborative album, the result of about eight years of work. The ex Genesis and the co-founder of Marillion they will publish next August 28th “The Roaring Waves”.

About their collaboration Steve Hackett speaking to Prog magazine he declared: “When you are friends first and music comes second, you understand that there is no competition and that something different starts to happen.”

“The Roaring Waves” contains seven instrumental tracks, all inspired by the British coastal town of North Yorkshire where Rothery lived as a boy. “In the winter you could hear the crash of the waves during the storms. Whitby was a very evocative place to live, a poetic and powerful place to grow up.”

The work on “The Roaring Waves” began to get serious from 2023, with recording sessions at the Buckinghamshire Racket Club between their respective individual projects. In a press release Steve Hackett declared: “Our approach was a bit old school, like the idea of ​​friends meeting in the garage to play and be together.” While Rothery, again at Prog, said: “If you had told fifteen-year-old me, who was discovering Genesis and starting to learn to play the guitar, that one day this legendary guitarist would become a great friend of mine more than 40 years later, I would have fainted.”
