Sonic Youth: surprise reunion between Moore, Ranaldo and Shelley

Surprise reunion for Sonic Youth. Or rather, for three members of the “classic” lineup of the iconic no-wave band. Friday night Thurston Moore, Lee Ranaldo and Steve Shelley returned to share the stage. The event happened at The Stone, a club in Greenwich Village in New York, when Shelley unexpectedly went on stage and sat behind the drum set to accompany Moore and Ranaldo, who were performing in the club. The show was described by the lucky ones who were present at The Stone, and who shared some clips of the reunion on social media, as “an hour of improvised instrumental noise”. Here are some videos of the event:

Sonic Youth’s experience officially ended in 2011, two years after the release of the group’s last album, “The eternal” in 2009. In 2022, Three Lobed Recordings sent the compilation “In/Out/” to stores In”, containing five songs recorded between 2000 and 2010.
