Slipknot’s Corey Taylor replays The Cure’s “Lovesong” on piano
In a moment of break from the stages, ready to return to tour in Europe with Slipknot from December 5th, Corey Taylor has decided to take off his mask and share one of his most sensitive sides with the public. Sitting at the piano, in the privacy of his home, the singer then returned to reread one of his favorite songs, with atmospheres and tones far removed from what one is used to hearing from the masked heavy metal band.
For the latest video published on his official Instagram profile, Corey Taylor played on the piano a personal version of the first part of “Lovesong” by The Cure, a song included in the English band’s eighth studio album “Disintegration” from 1989. The song , originally written by Robert Smith as a wedding gift for his then-girlfriend and later wife, Mary Poole, was re-read by Taylor as a dedication to his partner Alicia Dove, whom he married in 2019.
“For My Love. My Rose. My Dragon. My Queen. My Life”, is the caption that accompanies the cover of the song done by the Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman.
Corey Taylor has repeatedly measured himself with “Lovesong”, playing it live in several solo concerts between 2015 and 2016. The live version of the cover proposed by Taylor together with guitarist Christian Martucci on the Koko stage in London on May 8th 2016 was filmed and included in the album and video “Live in London”. According to Setlist.fm statistics, the singer hasn’t played the Cure song since that London show – the performance of which is available at 1 hour and 8 minutes of the video below:
After returning to concert in Italy last June for the solo tour in support of his second self-album “CMF2” (here our interview and here the review), Corey Taylor will return to play in our area together with Slipknot next summer . The opportunity will be given by the stage scheduled in Piazza Ariostea in Ferrara, as part of the Ferrara Summer Festival on June 17, 2025.
