Slipknot: the original design of the logo created by Joey Jordison
Through a shared post on Instagram, the original design of the slipknot logo created by the former drummer and co-founder Joey Jordison, who passed away at 46 years in 2021, was made public.
Nathan Jonas Jordison – this is the name to the artist’s registry who, born on April 26, 1975, was part of the formation of Des Moines until 2013 – was one of the founding members of the band Heavy Metal Metal Metal, of which he was also one of the main authors. During the first years of the original group of Iowa, Jordison remained active also as a visual artist, creating both the iconic logo of the band and the famous “tribal” symbol in the shape of S.
In recent days, the “Joeyjordisonfamily” Instagram account – according to the bio “created by Joey Jordison’s family to celebrate his life and his inheritance” – published the initial sketch, hand designed, of the logo made by Jordison. Apparently, the logo remained practically unchanged compared to that first draft.
From that first sketch, the logo and the writing of the slipknots have appeared on all the band’s albums, starting from their homonymous debut of 1999 to “The End, I know“ (here our review), released in 2022 and dedicated precisely to the memory of Jordison. The following year, the drummer’s heirs have filed a cause against the group, accusing her of speculating on the death of the late musician. They also said that the slipknot had not returned “at least 22 objects” that belonged to Jordison, despite having promised to return all its personal effects. The cause was resolved in September 2024.
Identified within the Iowa band with the number 1 and among the members of the original formation of the group of “All Hope Is Gone”, Joey Jordison separated from the original band of Des Moines in 2013, and only three years later he revealed the reason why his way and that of his companions divided themselves. Revealing that his exit from the group had coincided with a neurological disorder, initially confused by the other slipknot members with a problem of abuse of substances, in front of the audience of the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards 2016 Jordison had said: “I started to suffer from a terrible disease called transverse honey. I had lost the use of the legs, I could no longer play. It is a form of sclerosis. Multiple that I would not wish for my worst enemy “.
Outside the briefs, Jordison played the battery for the Murderdells, the SinSaenum, the SCAR the Martyr and the Vimic. His place in the Slipknot was taken by Jay Weinberg, son of Max Weinberg (drummer of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band), in turn replaced last year by the former sepulture Eloy Casagrande.
