Sanremo 2024: the most used words in songs
Sanremo 2024 goes ‘boom’: And this, in fact, is the most used word in the lyrics of the songs that will be presented at the Festival. Like every year, Volocom, a company specialized in information monitoring, carried out the semantic analysis of the texts to find out which words are the most recurring. The last edition saw the terms “evil and good” prevail in the lyrics, thanks to Madame’s song entitled “Good in evil”. The 2024 edition promises to be full of new features. Starting with the lyrics: surprisingly, this year’s Italian song festival sees a word of English origin at the top of the semantic ranking.
The word “boom”, in fact, is mentioned 33 times. Onomatopoeia – a word that reproduces a sound – is the protagonist of the song “Click boom” by Rose Villain. The lyrics by the Milanese singer-songwriter and rapper are in fact focused on her love and power. The word “boom” is repeated several times in the song’s chorus, where Rose Villain describes the strength of the love she feels for her loved one. Boom is the sound that represents the beating of the heart when it is near the loved one: “Feel my heart goes like this boom boom boom”. “Love” certainly couldn’t be missing from the podium, which is the second most used word with 30 mentions. However, it only appears in two songs, while in previous editions it was present on (almost) all the songs in the competition. The song “Love in the Mouth” by the French Saints talks about a finished love and the difficulty of forgetting the loved one. The French Saints describe love as a feeling that can be sweet and bitter at the same time. The other song is “A Boy, a Girl” by The Kolors. However, the word love is mentioned only once in the text (“love cannot be sung in a verse of eight”).
Closing the podium is another common term in our language: “life” is the third most cited word in the lyrics of the songs competing in Sanremo 2024 with 23 mentions. Even though she is third place, it is interesting to note that she is the most prevalent within this year’s songs. “Vita”, in fact, is present in the songs of Alessandra Amoroso, Angelina Mango, Dargen D’Amico, Gazzelle, Il Volo, La Sad, Ricchi e Poveri and finally by the Santi Francesi. Reading the lyrics of these songs, deep and multifaceted narratives about human life emerge. At the foot of the podium, there is ‘sky’ (22 mentions), followed by ‘fact’ and ‘boredom’ (21). So ‘know’ (18), ‘look’ (17), ‘sea’ (16). So ‘heart’ leads the group with 15 quotes.
