In recent days the news had spread that Sammy Hagar abandoned live activity (Read here). Now the former Van Halen and now soloist has clarified and denied the “retirement” rumors in a new video message on Instagram.
“The last couple of weeks I’ve been getting all these messages from people: ‘Oh, my God, you’re not going to tour anymore.’ I didn’t say I’m not going to tour anymore,” the Red Rocker revealed. “I was referring to the residency that will take place in May with Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony, Kenny Aronoff, Rai Thistlethwaytethe same band as Best of All Worlds. We’re going to do a residency.”
He continued: “I hope it’s a lot easier for me than packing my bags every day, getting on a plane, flying to the next city, checking into a hotel, running to soundcheck, trying to eat something, doing a show and go to meet and greets after the show.”
“Without all that crazy travel and “extracurricular” stuff, it should be easier for me to wake up, have a nice breakfast in the city where you’re going to play, without having to do anything except go to the gym, maybe rehearse. Yes, friend, that’s how we think. I can’t wait for the time to play because I’ll be well rested without all that travel,” Hagar explained.
The musician then spoke about his approach to touring: “Maybe I could do five hundred more shows with this voice and this body. I’m an artist. I love performing and that takes everything away from you. So that’s what I’m saying. I hope the residency is the answer to being able to continue for many more years, because if it doesn’t happen like this the tours will become difficult and I will do them less and less”.
“So, in the end, it probably won’t at all. I mean, it’s inevitable. I’m a human being (laughs). Anyway, it’s okay. I’ll never stop performing. I’ll play music, live music, as long as I can. I like it to die for. Are you kidding? Well, that’s the answer,” Sammy concluded in his video message.
Then, Hagar clarified her recent statements in which she said, “I don’t think I want to tour anymore. I hate to say it because I don’t want to piss off my fans. I’ll go out and do a one-off show and do stuff like that, but the residency will give me a good extension of my career. That’s what I’m hoping for.”
The singer has a nine-show Las Vegas residency planned for the spring. The “Best Of All Worlds Tour – The Residency” runs from April 30 to May 17 at Dolby Live.
