Ron Wood's favorite Rolling Stones song

Ron Wood’s favorite Rolling Stones song

Ronnie Wood entered the Rolling Stones in 1975 to replace Mick Taylor who left frustrated that he couldn’t sign the songs and then realized it would never be his band. Wood despite having served in the Jeff Beck Group and in Small Faces when he entered the Stones’ court he left his ego at the door, understanding that he had to put himself at the service of Jagger and Richards.

Very quietly Ron Wood became increasingly integrated into the Rolling Stones and began to make his contribution. On the 1980 album, “Emotional Rescue”signed the opening track of the album “Dance (Pt. 1)”. He is very attached to that song and it is perhaps his favorite song Rolling Stones. Once speaking about how the song came about, he said: “I asserted myself, because I chose a song that I wrote. I thought, ‘No one is going to quote this.’ But I think when people hear that song they love it, because it really makes everyone dance.”

The guitarist of
Rolling Stones
he then explained how that was the first time the rest of the band followed him. “I had the riff in mind and an instrumental backing track, to get the groove and the funk going. Then Mick jumped on it and he… we didn’t have to talk much. He said more or less, ‘Let me loose and I’ll set it on fire ‘”.

On another occasion, Wood elaborated on the song’s genesis: “‘Dance Pt. 1’ was a strong riff that Mick immediately jumped on, literally got up and danced, which was the basic idea of the song: it’s a catchy riff. That was an example of a song that was born without words, just a groove with various changes, but never a chorus. We had several different mixes at the time, but I can’t tell the difference between Part I or Part II or Part III was just a new one, the Part 1 piece.”
