Rocco Tanica against Ghali: “But lower the crest?”
“But a little down the line, right? Just a little, eh.” With these words Rocco Tanica intervened on X, attacking Ghali shortly before the inauguration ceremony of the Milan Olympic Games, scheduled for Friday 6 February at the San Siro stadium. The comment comes after a post published by Ghali on social media, with which the Milanese artist returned to talk about his participation in the Olympic event. An intervention that has reignited attention around his role within the ceremony, already at the center of discussions in the previous days. Ghali’s presence on the San Siro stage was in fact one of the most discussed of the artistic cast chosen for the inauguration of the Games, which will see alternating Italian and international names such as Mariah Carey, Laura Pausini and Andrea Bocelli.
The controversy has its roots in 2024, when Ghali, during the Sanremo Festival, spoke openly about “genocide in Gaza”, calling for a “stop”, arousing mixed reactions. In the past few days the Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi had clarified the limits of the artist’s intervention: “He will sing and say the things agreed with the organizers. This is not the stage of any concert, but a place where everyone will respect the rules”. Words read by some as an institutional clarification, by others as a form of preventive distancing. The post by Ghali, who also published the new single “Basta”, was followed by the intervention of Rocco Tanica, who with an ironic joke he criticized the artist, contributing to fueling the debate on the relationship between music, public visibility and institutional context in an event designed to speak to a global audience.
