Ricky Martin to Bad Bunny: “You won and you are loyal to Puerto Rico”

Ricky Martin has published an open letter addressed to Bad Bunny after the success at the 2026 Grammy Awards, praising the artist for having won the award without denying his roots. The message appeared in the Puerto Rican newspaper El New Day and was shared by Martin himself on social media. Bad Bunny, stage name of Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, was among the great protagonists of the evening in Los Angeles on February 1st, winning the Grammy for Best Global Musical Performance with “EoO” and winning both Best Urban Music Album is Album of the Year with “Debí Tirar Más Fotos”. It is the first time that the top award goes to an album entirely in Spanish.

In his acceptance speech, the artist criticized ICE policies, defending the migrant community. “We are not animals or aliens: we are human beings,” he declared from the stage. In the letter, Ricky Martin writes that Bad Bunny’s triumph “is not just a musical achievement, but a cultural and human victory”, underlining how he won “without changing the color of his voice” and “remaining faithful to Puerto Rico”. The singer added that he was struck by the silence of the audience during the speech on immigration, calling it a moment shared “between fear and hope”. The success of “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” arrives at a time of strong political exposure for Bad Bunnyoften critical of ICE and recently attacked by the MAGA camp after the announcement of his presence at the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show.
