Resurrection Songs: Easter in 10 songs
Easter, as well as Christmas, has inspired several songs, which evoke its spiritual, symbolic or cultural meaning or simply use it as a background to tell a story. Although there is no real “Easter repertoire” comparable to that of Christmas songs, many songs deal with the theme of resurrection, hope and renewal. Resurrection Songs, to paraphrase the classic of Bob Marlet
Easter music ranges between different genres: from the classics of US country, such as “The Old Rugged Cross” by Alan Jackson, up to the most controversial rock atmospheres of “Easter?” of the Jefferson Airplane.
Some songs explicitly face the history of Jesus, as in the helmet of Fabrizio De André, while others, as “Easter” of Patti, demoting Easter as a metaphor for personal transformation and inner rebirth.
We have selected 10 among the songs that can be heard on the occasion of Easter: some speak directly of the resurrection, others contain the word “Easter” in the title, while others still evoke the concept of rebirth in a wider sense.
