Police: Stewart Copeland in concert in Milan (with Faso)

On one side, the beating heart of the Police. On the other, two of the souls of Elio e le Storie Tese, Faso and Vittorio Cosma. Stewart Copeland has decided to rely on the experience of the bassist and keyboardist of the band led by Elio for the show that on October 18 on the stage of the Teatro Arcimboldi in Milan will see him present to the Italian public “Police deranged for orchestra”, an orchestral work in which he revisits like never before the iconic songs of the group of “Every breath you take”.

In these concerts Copeland offers a new perspective on classics such as “Roxanne”Don’t stand so close to me and Messay in a bottle”supported – in addition to Faso and Vittorio Cosma, but also by the guitarist Gianni Rojatti and the backing singers Sarah-Jane, Laise Sanches and Raquel Brown – also by an orchestra composed of 27 elements.

The idea for this concert was born when Stewart Copeland began working on a soundtrack for a film about The Police. The demands of the film required a different approach to the music, leading to the need to rework these pop songs. By analyzing and breaking down The Police’s music to fit the scenes of the film, Copeland found new inspiration, transforming these tracks into a unique orchestral experience:

The re-tooling of these songs began as a soundtrack for a film I made from some Super 8 footage of the band, captured during our rise to fame. Cinema makes capricious demands on music, which is why these pop songs had to be re-tooled. I had to dissect the Police’s music to serve the film’s scenes, and with the scalpel ready, a new inspiration hit me. Researching multi-tracks of the original recordings, and live performances, uncovered lost guitar solos, bass lines and vocal improvisations too beautiful to be forgotten. Meanwhile, my 20 years as a film composer had forced an orchestral education on me, and so the idea for this combination that led to Police Deranged For Orchestra came together. Sting’s songs, Andy’s inventions and my own enthusiasm: all in a wild ride with the orchestra.
