Placebo and Ultimo, time for “returns”: the albums of the week
The new live album by Antonello Venditti, Ultimo’s latest recording effort: the Holy Spirit and his son. But there is also that devil Fabri Fibra with the deluxe of “While Los Angeles burns” and Placebo who, to celebrate thirty years of career, publish a project of reinterpretations in which they rework some of the most famous songs in their repertoire. Friday 19 June therefore promises to be a rich day for the record market: releases that are very different from each other, but share a specific weight. Below are Rockol’s picks for the albums of the week.
Placebo – “Re: Created”
To celebrate thirty years since the release of their self-titled debut album, Placebo release “Re:Created,” a new reimagining of the album that introduced them to the world in 1996. The new album features reworked and enriched versions of all ten songs from the original album, plus two bonus songs from the first version, capturing how these songs have evolved over decades of performances, while retaining the raw spirit that defined them. Among the songs there are the singles that marked those years, “Nancy Boy” and “36 Degrees”, songs that helped consolidate Placebo’s reputation for their writing ability and their transversal sound. These new recordings aim to amplify the urgency and attitude that made the originals so impactful, while reflecting the band’s growth and experience in the years since their debut.
Last – “The day I was waiting for”
With about ten days left until the record-breaking concert on July 4th in Tor Vergata, Rome, for which 250,000 tickets were sold, Ultimo releases his new album. It is titled, emblematically, “The day I waited for” and is intended to be the soundtrack to the 4th of July for fans. The album contains ten songs: among these also the singles “Romantica”, “Acquario” and “questa insensata di te”, which anticipated the release of the album. “The day I was waiting” comes two years after the previous “Altrove” and is the seventh work of unreleased songs published by the singer-songwriter from San Basilio in nine years.
Antonello Venditti – “Come on”
From the son to the Holy Spirit (we explained why Antonello Venditti is an obligatory step for new generation Roman singer-songwriters here). “Daje” is the new live album by Antonello Venditti. Not a random title: the exhortation in Roman dialect is the one with which the voice of “Roma Capoccia” opens his concerts. The album captures the energy of his latest tours “Cuore – Notte prima degli exami 1984-2024 40th anniversary” and “Notte prima degli exami 40th anniversary – 2025 edition”, which in two years took him to concerts throughout Italy with over 60 dates. An emotional journey through the great songs of Antonello Venditti in live version: an unmissable collection that combines generational anthems and great classics, restoring all the intensity of the stage.
Fabri Fibra – “While Los Angeles burns” (deluxe)
The rapper relaunches “While Los Angeles burns”: a new deluxe edition with unreleased songs is coming, arriving after a year. The album represented a particularly important moment in Fibra’s career, which lucidly described society and also personal fractures, without abandoning hope. We’ll see how the work will expand. Meanwhile, the announcement of his new album in synergy with Neffa made noise: a joint album that warmed the hearts of many fans.
