Pink Floyd, Guns N’ Roses: the rock bands that most inspire tattoos

Band logos, song lyrics and music-related symbols are among the most popular subjects chosen by fans for tattoos, celebrating their passion for artists and songs that have marked them. A recent study conducted by the tattoo artists of the Swiss studio LLTattoo, taken up by Ultimate Classic Rock, has even revealed which rock bands more than others inspire drawings, writings or otherwise, to be tattooed.

Through an analysis of search data from Google Keyword Planner, the Google AdWords tool for identifying the search volume of a query and any related searches, LLTattoo examined the volume of searches relating to tattoos dedicated to or inspired by the greatest rock artists of all times. A ranking was then drawn from the study, which places Pink Floyd in first place as the rock band that inspires tattoos more than others, generating an average global monthly search volume of 13,000 searches per month. The historic British group is followed in second place by Guns N’ Roses (10,675 searches per month) and Rammstein (thanks to 10,558 searches). The top 5 is then completed by Metallica and Nirvana, followed by Linkin Park in sixth position, Slipknot in seventh position and Twenty One Pilots in eighth. The ranking closes with Iron Maiden in ninth place and Tool in tenth.

“It’s very interesting to see which rock bands inspire the most tattoos around the world. Rock music and ink are seemingly inseparable and tattoos are almost obligatory for great rockers,” commented Dedaj of LLTattoo as reported by Ultimate Classic Rock: “ Having tattooed people in our studio with pieces influenced by some of these artists, some of the results are not surprising. However, there are also some interesting bands included in the top ten, as well as some that surprisingly didn’t make the list.”
