Pink Floyd, a Syd Barrett biopic in the works
One of the producers of the new Bob Dylan biopic, “A Complete Unknown,” has said he is working on a film about Pink Floyd co-founder Syd Barrett.
The project was revealed by producer Peter Jaysen, guest of Matthew Belloni in an episode of his podcast “The Town”. Jaysen’s company, Veritas Entertainment, was involved in securing the rights to Dylan’s music archive and life story for the feature film starring Timothée Chalamet. Peter Jaysen revealed to Matthew Belloni that in addition to the project on a biopic dedicated to Syd Barrett, there is the idea of bringing the story of Cass Elliot of the Mamas & Papas to the big screen.
“Thanks to our involvement with Bob in the making of ‘A Complete Unknown,’ we are fortunate to be working, at this time, with Wash Westmoreland, the great writer and director, on a film about Syd Barrett, co-founder of Pink Floyd” , explained Peter Jaysen, who without providing specific details on the projects and their possible release dates, added: “Jaysen added: “We have had several virtual meetings with the heirs of Mama Cass Elliot and met her daughter, Owen, and we are close to acquiring the rights to her book, ‘My Mama Cass’.”
Syd Barrett’s story was recently told in the documentary “Have You Got It Yet?” (here is our in-depth analysis), produced by Orian Williams, is directed by Roddy Bogawa and the late designer Storm Thorgerson (founder of the graphic studio Hipgnosis and author of the Pink Floyd covers and also known for his work with artists such as Led Zeppelin and Paul McCartney).
While Oltreoceano arrived last December 25th, “A complete unknown” will be released in Italian cinemas on January 23rd 2025. The film, based on the biography “Dylan goes electric!” by Elijah Wald, tracing the electric turning point in Bob Dylan’s career, has so far garnered positive reviews and, according to some rumors, the protagonist Timothée Chalamet could receive an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Dylan.
