Paul Simon Surprisingly Returns to the Stage for an Acoustic Concert
Paul Simon He hasn’t been playing live much these days, having retired from touring in 2018, but he made an exception on Monday night, performing at New York’s SoHo Sessions loft for about 150 lucky people.
According to the New York Times, those present included Whoopi Goldberg, Kevin Bacon, Amy Schumer, Jerry Seinfeld and the fellow musician Jackson Browne.
The SoHo Sessions series has been running since 2021, organized by Nicole Rechter and Greg Williamson, the same producers behind the annual Love Rocks NYC benefit concert. So far, 14 SoHo Sessions have been held to raise money for various causes. Performers include Warren Haynes, Taj Mahal, Joe Bonamassa, Gary Clark Jr. and more.
Simon’s performance on Monday night helped raise money for the Stanford Initiative to Cure Hearing Loss. Simon himself has struggled with the disease in recent years, having lost almost all hearing in his left ear.
“As you can imagine, and as some of you probably already know, it’s really frustrating as a musician, devastating, not being able to distinguish sounds,” he said. Simon immediately after finishing his performance.
