Patti Smith: a tribute concert in her honor at Carnegie Hall
Patti Smith will be honored with a tribute concert to Carnegie Hall in New York in March 2025, the concert will be the last event of the “Music Of” charity series promoted by the founder and CEO of City Winery, Michael Dorf, will be held on March 26 and all net proceeds will be donated to the musical education of young people less wealthy.
Confirmed artists include Smith’s longtime friend and collaborator, Michael Stipe of REM, as well as Kim Gordon, Matt Berninger by The National, Karen O by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Angel Olsen, Sharon Van Etten, Ben Harper, Courtney Barnett, Alison Mosshart of the Kills, the Kronos Quartet and other artists and actors yet to be announced.
Guests will be joined by a house band made up of members of bassist/keyboardist Smith’s band Tony Shanahan (with Smith since 1996) and the guitarist Lenny Kaye (from ’74 to ’79 and from 1996 to today), as well as the bassist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers Flea and the Rolling Stones drummer Steve Jordan.
According to Rolling Stone, the concert lineup will focus on the album “Horses” by Smith (whose 50th anniversary will be in 2025), but will also contain songs from the rest of her repertoire and will include spoken parts.
Previous “Music Of” shows have paid homage to Crosby, Stills & Nash, Paul McCartney, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Aretha Franklin And Talking Heads.
