Ozzy Osbourne: a farewell concert with Black Sabbath reunion
Geezer Butler stay in touch with Ozzy Osbourne and reports that the ailing singer hopes to reunite the Black Sabbath during his last concert.
“Ozzy has been talking to me about doing his farewell concert – which he still wants to do – and he’s dying to get out and play,” Butler said during a recent conversation with Lifeminute. “And he suggested, on the occasion of his last concert, that all four of us go up on stage and maybe do three or four songs together. And that would be it, that’s it.”
Butler reiterated that a Black Sabbath reunion of any kind would be a “one-off.” “There definitely won’t be any more tours,” the bassist said.
Black Sabbath’s last official concert dates back to 2017, although since then some members have shared the stage, as when Osbourne and Tony Iommi they performed “Paranoid” at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
We need to go back to‘OzzFest in the summer of 2005 to find the last time that Osbourne, Iommi, Butler and Bill Ward they played together.
In recent years, Osbourne’s ongoing health problems have prevented him from taking the stage. The legendary frontman – who continues to suffer complications from back surgery at home and also battles Parkinson’s disease – was originally part of the Power Trip 2023 music festival lineup but had to withdraw.
This year he hoped to play at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, where he was honored as a solo artist, but Ozzy instead left the spotlight to an ensemble of famous friends who performed his songs. For the occasion they took to the stage the drummer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers Chad Smiththe bassist of Metallica Robert Trujillothe producer and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Watts and the keyboard player Adam Wakeman (son of Rick, the one from Yes).
