One Direction tragedy: Liam Payne dies at 31
Tragedy at One Direction. Liam Payne, one of the former members of the record-breaking British boy band, has died at just 31 years old.
The singer fell from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires. The Argentine newspaper La Nacion was the first to report the news. According to what was reported by the Argentine newspaper, the management of the hotel where Payne was staying called the police around 5pm local time (in Italy it was 10pm), reporting the presence of a man with harassing and aggressive attitudes, perhaps under the influence of alcohol and drugs. However, when the police arrived on site, they found Payne’s body lying on the ground in the internal courtyard of the hotel. The dynamics of what happened are not yet clear, whether it was a voluntary gesture or, instead, an accident. The prosecutor’s office is investigating the case.
In recent weeks he had come under fire due to the publication by his ex-girlfriend Maya Henry, a 23-year-old British model, of a novel featuring a dancer who suffers violence from her boyfriend, a frustrated pop singer. In the novel the protagonist also ends up having an abortion against her will. The two were engaged for three years from 2019 to 2022. “The book is fictional, but inspired by real events”, she limited herself to saying, who a few days ago had accused Payne of continuing to bombard her with messages and phone calls, harassing her.
It was 2010 when Liam Payne showed up at the auditions for the British edition of The X Factor. He was eliminated, but then the judges, Simon Cowell first and foremost, talent scout and creator of the format, decided to join him and other eliminated boys in a group. The other guys were Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Zayn Malik. Thus One Direction was born, the revelation of that edition of X Factor and then a stadium phenomenon with millions of copies sold worldwide.
The group suspended its activities in 2016 and the members subsequently continued as soloists: the dissolution of the group was never declared. After his debut with 1D, Payne released a solo album, “LP1”, in 2019.
