Oasis, the reunion: the monetization of nostalgia

Oasis, new concerts on the reunion tour

The Oasis extend their reunion tour and add a series of international dates in North America and Mexico which will come after the first dates in Great Britain and Ireland

It kicks off on August 24 with an opening night at Toronto’s Rogers Stadium, before Liam and Noel Gallagher head to the US for three shows. A concert in Mexico City has also been announced, scheduled for September 12th.

THE Cage The Elephant will join the band as special guests for all new non-European dates, and the US shows come 16 years after the Gallagher brothers last performed in the country.

“America. Oasis is coming. You have one last chance to prove that you have always loved us,” the band said in a new statement, announcing the North American dates. For the fans in Mexico, they said: “People of Mexico, get ready. Los Hermanos estan en Camino” (“People of Mexico, get ready. The Brothers are coming”).

The new tour dates follow initial dates in the UK and Ireland, which include more shows in London, Edinburgh, Dublin, Cardiff and Manchester. The two extra London shows – added after many fans struggled to get tickets the first time – will take place directly after the new show in Mexico. All UK tour dates are completely sold out.

Ticket sales for the British dates sparked controversy after fans experienced long queues and technical difficulties, as well as large numbers of tickets presented at inflated prices due to a “dynamic” surge in prices. In response to the backlash, Oasis took “a small step forward to remedy the situation” and announced the two extra dates at Wembley Stadium, which were sold in staggered batches via an invitational ballot. Oasis also stated that they were “never aware that dynamic pricing would be used”.

While Cage The Elephant have been announced as the support act for shows in North America and Mexico, there is still speculation as to who will join the band for the UK shows. So far, fans have been discussing potential support acts, with names such as Blossoms, Kasabian and Richard Ashcroft among those mentioned. Earlier this month, it was reported that Liam was looking for “established artists” to open for Oasis in 2025, but it currently seems unlikely to be Suede or Fontaines DC, as the frontman attacked both bands online.

There is also discussion about who will be part of the Oasis lineup reunited alongside Liam and Noel. Reportedly the original guitarist Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs will participate in the tour dates, while among the other members there is talk of the guitarist Gem Archer and the bass player Andy Bell. Quotations for the drummer are going strong on social media Alan White. Liam hinted that the line-up could feature “some new faces”.
