Oasis, the reunion: the monetization of nostalgia

Oasis: a video from the (presumed) Cardiff tests

When there are only three days left for the highly anticipated show that on Friday evening will kick off the tour of the Oasis reunion, the expectation of fans gets spasmodic. In the last few hours, a video shot by a fan outside the Cardiff’s mainty stadium has been circulating on social media, where, according to what is claimed, an alleged Soundcheck of Noel and Liam Gallagher was already underway.

In the clip, one of the stadium, with a very high volume, one of the classics of the Oasis repertoire, “Cigarettes & Alcohol”, based on the 1994 debut album “Defintely Maybe”, can be resounded. The first clip was followed by another video, shot by another fan from another point in the area around the mainty stadium. “Liam plays beautifully,” wrote a fan, among the comments. And another: “His voice seems to be rejuvenated, refreshed”.

But it was Liam Gallagher himself, always very active on X (ex Twitter), who denied the rumors according to which the Oasis were already trying within the mainty Stadium yesterday, four days from the show. First the singer ironized: “Mmm I’m not sure of the voice, it is too aggressive, it really needs to relax. It is always so angry that I don’t know who you think you are, as far as I’m concerned it is only a talker of the North”. Then he tweeted: “I was in my swimming pool all day to make scores underwater. So it is certainly a recording, the one made to hear at the tests. Unless there are two of me”.

Yesterday the Oasis revealed the timetables relating to the two shows scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Cardiff’s Main Stadium: the band will begin to play at 8.15 pm – 9.15 pm, Italian time – and at 10.30 pm the curfew at the stadium will start.
