Noel Gallagher: “The last tour’s live shows were better than the 90s”
Saturday Noel Gallagher was awarded Author of the Year during the Brit Awards ceremony which was held at the Co-op Arena in Manchester. Noel paid tribute to his city and his bandmates on stage. “Yes, Manchester. I’ll start by saying I have to thank my brother, Bonehead, Guigsy, Tony McCarroll, Alan White, Gem and Andy who brought those songs to life. Without them, I’d just be a songwriter, and nobody gives a damn about songwriters.”
Backstage, the eldest of the Gallagher brothers spoke, among other things, about the band’s reunion tour Oasis last year, saying it was “the most amazing thing we’ve ever done. Coming back after all these years, having number one albums and everything is really crazy, we loved every minute and every second of it. The shows were amazing, especially the ones in Manchester, and I’m truly speechless. The shows spoke for themselves.”
After declaring that those concerts were “better than the 90s” and “the best you can get”, he also spoke about the upcoming documentary about their comeback. “I’ve only seen a small part of it and it’s hard to express an opinion because I only watch little snippets. Everyone who’s seen it, or seen more of it than me, has said it’s fantastic. If it captures even five percent of what that tour was, it’ll be amazing. I can’t wait.”
Once the tour began, it was announced that the creator of the television series ‘Peaky Blinders’, Steven Knight, would produce the tour film, directed by Dylan Southern And Will Lovelacealready working on the documentary about LCD Soundsystem ‘Shut Up And Play The Hits’. To film the documentary, Knight’s crew was given access to the meetings and rehearsal rooms that preceded the return of the Oasis.
