No, there will be no Maneskin concert at the Colosseum
No, there will be no Maneskin concert at the Colosseum in Rome. And not only because the Roman band is currently stuck in the pits for over a year, while singer Damiano David continues to tour the world with his solo tour linked to the album “Funny little fears”. The reason has to do with the fact that the Flavian Amphitheater cannot host rock concerts, despite what has been circulating in recent weeks. It was an interview in the newspaper La Repubblica with the new director of the archaeological park of the Colosseum, Simone Quilici, that made fans dream: not just those of Maneskin, who on social media had associated the recent reunion of Victoria De Angelis, Thomas Raggi and Ethan Torchio under the stage of Damiano David’s concert in Rome with the possibility of seeing the group reunited on a stage like that of the Colosseum. But also those of artists such as Sting, Paul McCartney and Peter Gabriel. In the interview, Quilici expressed the dream of “organizing high-quality events, such as classical music and pop music concerts”. Then he added, outlining the profiles of the artists: “International artists. Like Sting, Peter Gabriel. The dream is Paul McCartney, who already did a concert in 2003, but outside the Amphitheatre. And he also did one inside, but only for a few close friends.” Quilici had specified: “They must be events that bring an audience that is not too wild. To avoid excessive vibrations. And the music must not be at an exaggerated volume. Therefore rock, in moderation”.
However, now the director of the Colosseum Archaeological Park responds to the Associated Press to the doubts raised by the archaeological community regarding his statements, clarifying:
Music must be carefully controlled. I mentioned some artists – not surprisingly – who haven’t done ‘rock’ for a long time, who play calm music and attract a calm audience, because the important thing is that it’s not a wild audience. I joked about rock in moderation – that’s what I meant, a more subdued kind of music. But the opposite of what I said was reported.”
The concerts in question could be acoustic or jazz, Quilici said, citing Sting as an example. The amphitheater could host poetry readings, dance performances and theater productions.
