Nick Cave rereads “La Vie En Rose” by Edith Piaf
Jack Antonoff continues to share songs from his soundtrack for “The New Look” the series aired on Apple TV+. This week he released the new cover of Nick Cave of the French standard”La Vie en rose“.
Antonoff produced Cave’s “La Vie en rose” and enlisted some of his bandmates, i Bleachersto play on the song: Evan Smith and Zem Audu play saxophone and Mikey Freedom Hart is on synthesizer.
Édith Piaf wrote the lyrics for “La Vie en rose” in 1945 while the music was composed by the pianist Louis Guglielmi. The original title of the song was “Les choses en roses”. It is not the first time that Piaf’s song, awarded the Grammy Hall of Fame Award in 1998, is included in the soundtrack of a TV series. In “The New Look” Cave sings the English version of the song, with lyrics by Mack David.

“The New Look”, broadcast from 14 February 2024 on Apple TV + with an episode every Wednesday until 3 April, reveals the story of how Christian Dior and other contemporary fashion icons (and at the same time “competitors”) such as Coco Chanel, Pierre Balmain and Cristóbal Balenciaga faced the horrors of the Second World War and started modern fashion. The cast includes Ben Mendelsohn, Juliette Binoche, John Malkovich and Maisie Williams.
